Joseph Heler Cheese, the UK’s Largest Independent Cheese Manufacturer, and Cheshire Farm Ice Cream believe that they have answered a question that has baffled many a host for decades, combining two courses to create ‘Joseph Heler’s Cheshire Cheese and Quince Jelly Ice Cream’. The ice cream is currently being trialled with this culinary masterpiece being unveiled for the 2011 British Cheese Week (September 24th to 2nd October 2011).

As such, Cheshire’s Food giants Joseph Heler Cheese and Cheshire Farm Ice Cream have come together to prove that you can have it all if you want to. This delicious combination of creamy Cheshire cheese, complimented perfectly by the tangy Quince jelly, works in harmony with ice cream and really has to be tasted to be believed.

17/06/2011 Business as Usual After Fire at the Ice Cream Farm

Disaster stuck yesterday when a fire broke out at the Ice Cream Farm. After a generator situated behind the outside toilets caught fire, staff ushered visitors into the main building as they attempted to put it out. The Fire and Rescue Service were immediately called, however, as the blaze became out of control all visitors were evacuated from the site.

Four fire engines attended the incident and were swift to get the blaze under control, minimising the damage and allowing the Ice Cream Farm to open up again today. Fortunately Scottish power were already on site for another matter and were extremely helpful, ensuring that power was regained to the site as quickly as possible. The only area that is out of bounds to the public are the outside toilets, the remaining damage has occurred ‘behind the scenes’ at the back of the main house, ensuring that the attraction is safe to all visitors and will be open as usual today.

Jonathan Fell, Director of Cheshire Farm Ice Cream says: “If it hadn’t been for the outstanding work and fast action of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the main house was minutes away from going up as well. I am incredibly proud of all of our staff who were quick to get everyone off the site and ensure their safety. We are also really pleased that the damage has been kept to a minimum so that we can open up again straight away and avoid any disappointment.”

25/05/2011 Choc Chip Piglets Create a Stir at the Ice Cream Farm!

The Ice Cream Farm has gone all maternal this week as their adorable rare breed Kune Kune pigs have given birth to 18 piglets. Choc gave birth to 8 piglets last week and if that wasn’t enough, another load arrived over the weekend as ‘Chip’ the second Kune Kune pig at the farm, gave birth to 10 more Kune Kune piglets.

The piglets are already enjoying the attention as visitors to Cheshire’s tastiest tourist attraction flock to see them. Director of the Ice Cream Farm, Jonathan Fell says: “Everybody seems to love the piglets, the children are mesmerised by them sitting and watching for hours. We are really happy that they have arrived safely.”

The delightful pigs were christened ‘Choc’ and Chip’ this time last year when the Ice Cream Farm launched a competition to name the arrivals. 12 months on and they are sure to be launching another competition sometime soon to name their babies.

The Kune Kune name is pronounced Cooney Cooney, and means fat and round in Maori. They are small pigs measuring between 24 and 30 inches high, and are completely covered in hair. The Ice Cream Farm chose them as they are some of the friendliest animals on the planet and love human company.

Nestled in their home in the Ice Cream Farm’s Animal Corner, the pigs form part of what is fast becoming one of Cheshire’s greatest tourist attractions. After additional renovations this Easter, the Ice Cream opened a new Crazy Golf and Quad Bike area, making it a truly great day out for the whole family.

08/11/2010 Cheshire... So delicious it's been bottled!

Cheshire’s first ever branded bottled water launched last week and Cheshire’s iconic Ice Cream Farm is the first to stock it.

Renowned for its exceptional food, quality local produce and awe-inspiring countryside, it’s no surprise that Cheshire produces some superior spring water and it wasn’t going to be long before someone would take the initiative to bottle it.

Jonny Kershaw of Tattenhall Trading has done just that. Peckforton Hills Cheshire Spring Water is sourced from deep within a sandstone ridge rising 203m above the Cheshire plains. The natural filtration of the sandstone creates a delicious and fresh tasting spring water... a true taste of Cheshire.

Peckforton has been designated both as a site of special scientific interest and of biological importance, as well as being the source for the Gowy and Weaver Rivers. In addition to this it is also the site of the Peckforton Hills Spring where the water is sourced.

The spring water is being bottled by local soft drinks manufacturers, Calypso, and distributed by Tattenhall Trading. Mr Kershaw of Tattenhall Trading says: “As well as being a delicious and natural Spring water, one of the main selling points of this water is the fact that it is locally sourced, reducing food miles and minimising the environmental impact for customers that want to sell it in Cheshire and the surrounding areas.”

25/05/2010 Just ONE Spoonful off beating a World Record

A WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT for ‘The most amount of Ice Cream consumed in 30 seconds’ took place at first ever Ice Cream Farm Family Food Festival in May, where a late entry that came all the way from Manchester nearly ate his way to a World Record.

The rules stated that participants had to consume 382g of ice cream with a teaspoon to beat the world record attempt by the American record holder, Patrick Bertoletti, who carried out the challenge live on an American chat show.

Contestants from all over the North West took part including; local farmers, a trio of brothers and a very talented father of two who had went all the way from Manchester to the Chester countryside for the day. Of the 10 people that attempted to beat the record the smallest amount to be eaten in the 30 second period was 59g, however, Rob Burgess from Manchester managed to eat 362g… just 20g off the world record, a mere spoonful short!

Having been coaxed into to entering the competition by his children, Mr Burgess soon found his competitive side and was gutted to have missed the World Record by such a small amount.

After the success of the event, the Ice Cream Farm representatives are looking to carry out the attempt again next year, determined to make one of Cheshire’s most infamous tourist destinations  home to an ice cream themed World Record.

Over 5000 people turned out over the weekend to view the delights of the Ice cream Farm. Producers from all over the North West took stalls at the event, creating a veritable feast from; breads, meats, luxury oils, cup cakes, fudge and much more.

Live cookery demonstrations took place from Michelin-starred local chef Leigh Myers as well as some of the festivals own producers.

The award winning success of Cheshire Farm Ice Cream in 2009 was culminated in the accreditation of ‘Highly Commended’ in the Rural Enterprise category at the  Food and Farming Awards. The awards were held in December at the prestigious House of Commons, where the Cheshire Farm Ice Cream representatives were proud to attend.

Judges were impressed by the size and scale of the Cheshire farm Ice Cream operation, acknowledging the efforts made to see out tough economic times by injecting capital into the renovation of the Ice Cream Farm visitor attraction.  This work alone has led to an increased footfall, a record number of return visits and has also offered new employment opportunities within the local community.

Director, Tom Fell, collected the commendation at a reception given at the House of Commons, hosted by James Paice MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The Rural Enterprise Award is sponsored by Michelin Tyres and Helen Ainsworth, Michelin’s Agricultural Tyres Marketing Manager was on hand to present Tom Fell with the commendation.

Alan Whibley, Publisher of Farm Business magazine which organises the annual awards, said:  “Entrepreneurial landowners make the most of their rural assets and any successful farmer is acutely aware of how best to utilise his land - especially in today’s financial climate.

“In the category of Rural Enterprise Award the judges were looking for a company that had not only used their land to best effect to make a positive impact on their area, but had achieved this whilst acting as good custodians of the rural area.  Cheshire Farm Ice Cream is an excellent example of this and has more than fulfilled our criteria.”

05/11/2009 Keeping our Farm safe from E.coli

The recent outbreak of E.coli in Surrey is a reminder to us all to ensure our hands are clean at all times, especially when visiting animals.

At the Ice Cream Farm we are extremely vigilant when it comes to keeping our visitor attraction a ‘safe place’ to visit. Our brand new Animal Corner has been built to the best possible standards to ensure that our visitors and animals are safe at all times.

The new animal area has special hand cleaning facilities and all visitors are asked to use these for every visit. The area has been built to the specifications laid out by the health and safety authorities, who were consulted very early on in the planning of the whole site.

We would like to stress that it is extremely unusual to show signs of ill health following a visit to an open farm, even among children. We feel that the risk of an extremely rare outbreak needs to be balanced against the benefits for a child’s education and development that can arise from contact with animals.

As with the National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN), we are keen to ensure that our farm attraction is a safe environment and we are happy to cooperate with all authorities in their investigations.

If you would like further information the safety aspect of visiting farm attraction, please follow this web link: http://www.hse.gov.uk/campaigns/farmsafe/ecoli.htm
